I completely agree, and I think that this year will be the worse yet; the healthcare bill will pass this year – before the numbers are out on taxes.

There are reportedly 23 million of us that are either unemployed or underemployed and I am certain that most of those 23 million people did not volunteer to have taxes automatically deducted from their unemployment. In fact, many people closed their 401k or took a second mortgage or borrowed money to get through the last 12+ months. For some families it was worse; they lost everything. Do they really believe that people are ready to pay taxes on top of all of that? I can easily predict that that some families won’t even file this year (and the IRS will happily collect penalties, fees and interest!)

Unemployment has not improved and most of us understand that it will not improve any time soon. The thought of recovery is long since gone and its time we all realize that – in fact, we are one major disaster from another depression (let’s not talk about terrorism and the latest weather patterns for now). Unemployment and welfare will continue to become “the norm” for many households. Crime rates will get worse and people will become desperate. But, we have survived these times before, many times over in fact, and we will again. Let’s rethink our grandparent’s cliché, “I had to walk barefoot uphill in 3 feet of snow just to get to school”…maybe they were talking about their resilience, their pride, and their determination to succeed.

Hello,

I agree with the comments on Senator Cornyn. At least two idiots with virtually the same thoughts on immigration are now gone, Senator Trent Lott and George Allen, both former cosponsors of Cornyn's bill to increase H1B Visas. They're keeping their mouths shut now with our economic problems but we're still bringing in a million immigrants per year. Seems they can never reverse themselves after a bill is passed.

I'm an engineer who has three engineering degrees and I gave up and retired at age 49 due to my inability to find a job at what I consider a good salary in 2003. I had gone back to school, earned a Master's, had a very high gpa, and a GRE score higher than all engineers but perhaps 0.5%, and couldn't find a good job after 150+ resumes.

I pointed all this out to several senators’ staff including John Cornyn, Trent Lott, Kay Bailey Hutchinson (another H1B Visa supporter). The most dishonest reply came from Senator Lott who wrote "We agree with you and are against bringing in foreign workers unless absolutely necessary” while failing to tell me at the same time he was cosponsor of Cornyn’s bill. I found only a couple of senator's staff that would do anything but walk the top of a fence.

I suppose its time for a national party that supports what’s best for America and Americans.

Thank you

Can you see? These pens are not gold and as a government employee i can assure you that they are not gold, they are plastic and for you to suggest that they are is just another conservative stretch of the truth. And to be clear, George Bush did not use shapie's and used, depending on the bill, just as many pens!

The norm? Yes. Wasteful? Yes but nothing considering the rest of the money they waste. Every administration. If I ran my budget the way they do I would be living in a cardboard box. Just getting rid of the waste that is common sense would make a big difference but I doubt it will ever happen.

Comment on Fat Cat T-Boone Pickens – Wants your money for his Gas Companies by Brad

Mike, relax and have a cup of decaf. Pickens is trying to promote natural gas use in vehicles, the rest of the world is way ahead of us on this. There are over 9.5 million Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs) worldwide, but only about 150K in the US. Right now, NGVs are not being adopted in the US because we don't have the fueling stations, and because the cost of converting a vehicle to CNG is very high because of strict EPA requirements. The legislation is trying to get TAX CREDITS to encourage new companies to build those stations, and credits to encourage vehicle conversion. The $30M grants you mentioned are for R&D to develop efficient engines and have nothing to do with Picken's companies.

CNG burns 70-90% cleaner than gasoline, and is about 1/2 the cost of gasoline at the pump. 95% of our natural gas is produced in the good ol USA, while 65% of oil comes from overseas. So..explain to me again why CNG is a bad thing?

If just 10% of the vehicles in America switched to CNG, we would save $60 billion sent to OPEC. If you want to keep sending our petro-dollars to hostile foreign regimes, lets just put our heads in the sand and keep doing what we've been doing.

Fear not. Cap and Tax will never get past the Senate.

UPDATE: Now, Kathleen Sebelius has retracted her statement. More evidence that Obama is desperately trying to maintain control. His admin. is in absolute panic mode as too many of his comrads are making decisions without his permission.

Wait and see, it won't be too long before many of them start to resign.

This whole "background check" thing has gone too far---my credit score and credit report is nobody's business except a creditor that I am applying with for a mortgage or car loan. It certainly isn't the business of a prospective employer how many credit cards I have, how much my house cost, what kind of car I drive, what my credit limits are......If they want to prove my identity, fine. But, everything else is none of their business, and A LOT can be found out from a person's credit report that is actually illegal to ask in an interview---marital status, children and how many, age.........so, this should be made illegal too!! What's next? Submitting to a DNA sample when you apply for a job? It is ridiculous, and George Orwell knew what he was talking about.......our personal lives are nobody's business, especially an employer's. The CEO's and upper level executives of businesses and POLITICIANS are the most corrupt and steal more money than people with bad credit---and they have perfect credit! So, it is a very poor "judge" of someone's ability to do a job and their "qualifications".
